But I think if you notice more accurately you will also get to feel the heavy aura around them.In ancient timesIndia had the Gurukul system of education in which anyone who wished to study went to a teacher’s house and requested to be taught. If accepted as a student by the guru, he would then stay at the guru’s place and help in all activities at home. This not only created a strong tie between the teacher and the student, but also taught the student everything about running a house. The guru taught everything the child wanted to learn, from Sanskrit to the holy scriptures and Mathematics. The student stayed as long as he wished or until the guru felt that he had taught everything. All learning was closely linked to nature and to life, and not confine d to memorizing some information. The modern school system was brought to India, including the English language, originally by Lord Thomas Babington Macaulay in the 1830s. The curriculum was confined to “modern” subjects such as science and mathematics. And subjects like metaphysics and philosophy were considered unnecessary. Teaching was confined to classrooms and the link with nature was broken.Present day Education  systemWhat our present education system does is they decide on the topics for the syllabus, then they decide on the books for each subject. And they decide on the reference books as well. Teachers ask you to follow the reference book so as you can complete more workout sheets than your prescribed course book. Including preference for good marks/grades over being knowledgeable, lack of encouragement for thinking out of the box, asking questions in the class is considered rude and seldom encouraged, almost non-existent practice of extra reading, education restricted to prescribed textbook, rigid and outdated syllabus/curriculumBut to top of it all, they set the academic calender too. As we are from the land of customs and festival INDIA, so in one year we get summer vacation, winter vacation, and a lot of holidays for the festivals celebrated in our country. So ultimately the number of classes and the number of lessons which is to be completed in one academic session gets into an odd proportion. And many a time schools and college try to balance it out by scheduling multiple tests on a single day.So here in this article, lets look at the problems faced by the students when they are made to give two exams in one day.Overexerting before the exam Contents hide 1 Overexerting before the exam 2 Exhaustion 3 Stress 4 Confusion 5 Not beneficiary Students have to overexert themselves to complete the syllabus of two different subjects. What Is the Purpose of a Resume?

What Is the Purpose of a Resume? You are probably going to spend a lot of time on the topic of what is the purpose of a resume. You may even wonder if it's really a good idea for you to put your best foot forward in this regard because you really don't want to appear unprofessional or fake. But there is nothing wrong with trying to catch a potential employer's attention and get a job. After all, even though it's possible to be hired without a resume and several other applications in place, it's more likely for those people who put their best foot forward to make it past the screening process. And the same thing goes for people who submit resumes without a purpose in mind. So, what is the purpose of a resume? There are several reasons and an individual's purpose should be determined by the individual based on the job they are applying for. For example, if a person has spent many years in the IT field and is looking for a new position as a CIO, the goal would be different than if someone were looking for a job in sales. Just consider the types of positions that they have held before. The truth is that no matter what type of job you are looking for, you should make sure that your resume is well constructed and that you have a reason to put your resume together in the first place. While resumes used to be a form of marketing tool that only targeted people in need of the job, now they are part of the job application process as well. It's important to understand this so that you can make sure that you are putting yourself in the best possible light to get the best opportunities. When you make the decision to use a resume for what is the purpose of a resume, it will help you create a resume that looks professional and presents you in the best light. This doesn't mean that you are going to put your best foot forward on a resume. You will certainly display professionalism should never be the basis for your resume. The reason to put your resume together for what is the purpose of a resume is to present yourself in the best possible light. With more companies reviewing applications to be sure that they are worthy of being hired, it's important that your resume shows what it is that employers are looking for in the position that you are applying for. When you include the specific details about your qualifications and work experience, you will get the chance to convince these employers that you are the best candidate for the job. When you are considering what is the purpose of a resume, remember that you should be prepared to make changes to it for each person that is reviewing it. The details that you include on it should be up to date as your job history may change. When you use the information on a resume to talk about your qualifications and what you can do for the company, you should always make sure that you update the information for each company that you are interviewing with. The answer to what is the purpose of a resume is simple. You should put tog ether a resume that shows how you can be a good fit for any job and what you are looking for. After all, that is what the purpose of a resume is all about.

Is the UK Sleepwalking Towards Employee Burnout

Is the UK Sleepwalking Towards Employee Burnout Over the past year there has been considerable debate around the productivity of the UK workforce, but nowhere near as much insight on how to deliver improvements. The most recent statistics showed that the UK produces on average 30% less, every hour, than Germany, and is also less productive than the US, France and Italy. While UK workers put in longer hours than many of these countries, which suggests everyone is working very hard, we still find ourselves in a situation where those countries have produced by a Thursday lunchtime, as much as the UK has in a full working week. For many the cost of the increase in the National Living Wage has only exacerbated this problem. Some business leaders have responded by expecting the workforce to work longer hours in an effort to create more products and stay competitive. However, without addressing the underlying issues, this knee jerk reaction to the change in economic conditions might miss the point completely. The consequences for workforce wellbeing is serious, often delivering the opposite effect on productivity levels than is desired, while increasing the chances of employee burnout and fatigue. In fact, it is the counter-intuitive response of expecting employees to work fewer hours that might actually be the best way to approach this problem. Wake up call It is inevitable that over-worked employees will eventually become fatigued, not just a risk, and when they reach this point they will be less able, both mentally and physically, to complete their tasks to the required standards. The impact of this on the productivity and performance of a business can be stark. Take the example of an athlete. They train to perform best at a specific time, ensuring they get enough training, rest and recuperation to achieve peak performance when competing. An employee should be considered in exactly the same way, but more often than not they are asked to do more than that. For instance, if a runner that has just finished a marathon was forced to complete another 10k run directly afterwards, we would not expect them to set their fastest time for the distance yet we often insist workers to do just that when they work overtime. It is not surprising that under these circumstances employees work less efficiently. In the worst case scenario they will begin experiencing the effects of fatigue, so there is a reasonable argument that suggests working longer hours, doesn’t necessarily mean a higher volume or quality of work. What actually IS fatigue and burnout? At its most basic level, fatigue is a short-term condition that can be addressed by taking additional leave or a change of routine. Business leaders have much to gain by identifying where this is happening within the organisation; understanding the cause and taking the appropriate actions to reduce the risk. The return on investment for addressing this issue is increased employee happiness, wellbeing and ultimately productivity. The consequences of not dealing with fatigue can see it developing into the more serious and damaging long-term problem burnout. Burnout is a far more serious condition which can leave employees feeling trapped and despondent. This can lead to long periods of unplanned absence and in some cases even resignation. Once an employee reaches the point of burnout there is often very little a business can do to rectify the situation so it is vital businesses identify the signs of fatigue early to prevent it from escalating. But how can employers do this? Getting in bed with technology Technology can play a big role in preventing fatigue and burnout within the workforce. In fact this is likely to increase as it becomes more intelligent. The most forward thinking businesses use technology to help employees balance their own workloads by providing data on where stress points are and schedule the appropriate time off, or plan additional resourcing, to ease the pressures. But technology alone is not enough. It is equally important for business leaders to enforce a culture that enables employees to feel comfortable taking time off when necessary and empower them to manage their own workload where possible. Some processes worth considering that are essential to reach this balance include: Ensuring employees are getting adequate rest breaks between shifts this can be supplemented and guaranteed through the introduction of automation for some of the more time-consuming admin processes, utilising employees time to focus on other tasks during the time they are at work and avoiding having to work longer than necessary. Making sure shift scheduling and shift swapping is as easy as possible, with automated scheduling that takes into account workers’ availability and preference. Encouraging health and wellness initiatives as an intrinsic part of company culture. Promoting a healthy lifestyle and a good work/life balance is paramount and works best when cascaded from the top down with managers enforcing a healthy balance, so other employees feel comfortable to follow suit Sleep, rest and recuperation are fundamental components of a person’s performance at work and should be key tenets in any drive to increase efficiency, productivity and engagement in the workforce. Alongside this, utilising the latest technology can play a crucial role in providing the tools that will help businesses understand where the stress points are and empower employees to maintain a healthy work/life balance. The more businesses adopt this approach, the best chance we give employees to increase productivity. It might take some time to change traditional UK attitudes towards long hours, but it will be worth the investment. Personal Branding Through the Eyes of a B2B Marketer - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Personal Branding Through the Eyes of a B2B Marketer - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Today, I spoke with Dianna Huff, who gives us a unique perspective on personal branding through the eyes of a B2B communications expert, whose been in the marketing game for years.   We discuss traditional and new marketing tools that can be used for businesses, as well as individuals, to maximize brand strength.   Dianna reminds us to think about objectives before focusing on building a brand, using social media tools. Dianna, what new and traditional media tools are available to everyone? Can you list them? Dan, companies large, small, and micro have so many advantages today in terms of marketing. You have all the traditional media tools, such as direct mail, print advertising, TV and radio advertising, partnerships with other companies, networking, tradeshows, and public speaking. Then you have all the new tools, courtesy of the Internet, that allow you to reach prospects in a very targeted way: Websites, search engine optimization, pay per click, blogging, podcasts and video, and social networking such as Facebook and LinkedIn. Which tools are better to use in certain situations? That really depends on your business and your objectives. For example, some experts say that print advertising is dying and that companies are now directing ad dollars to pay per click, etc. Yes, print advertising is losing ground â€" there is no denying that fact. However, I met with a prospective B2C client recently who advertises in her town’s local newspaper. Now generally, I would say, “Don’t advertise. Spend the money building an optimized Website instead. The ROI is better.” This is especially true for business-to-business companies. This company, however, kept track of calls generated by the ad. On top of that, the newspaper itself had *increased* in size, from 15 pages to 50 pages, because of population growth in the town. In this case, the ad was generating response and it was working for this company. So my advice to any company is this: Analyze the tactics you’re currently using. Are they generating inquiries? If not, why not? If you’re not seeing any ROI, reassess your marketing program and make changes. Hire an outside consultant if you have to â€" a marketing consultant will see the big picture and can recommend a very targeted plan of action. If your marketing tactics do generate inquiries/sales, track the inquiries to ensure they become sales. Then, consider adding one or two of the new tactics outlined above that fit in with your business. Maybe your business and its products don’t lend themselves to clever YouTube videos, but someone on your staff (or you) is an enthusiast / cheerleader for your company â€" this person could make a great blogger. Is an email mailing list necessary anymore if you have a blog with RSS? Why or why not? Yes, an email mailing list is necessary even if you have RSS. Why? Because not everyone knows how to use RSS and because the bulk of online communication still happens via email. In my own case I have a LinkedIn profile, a Twitter feed, a blog, and an e-newsletter. I still send out my e-newsletter because: I still have people subscribing to it the “old fashioned” way via a subscription form despite having an RSS feed for it, and many people who subscribe to it simply do not read my blog. On top of that, I have a Bloglines account, which I don’t check all that often. But, I do read the newsletters and email offers that hit my inbox on a regular basis.   So yes, an email list is still a necessity. What B2C business strategies can be used with B2B and for personal brand building? For B2B micro-companies and consultants, building a brand using “B2C strategies” has never been easier. Tools such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and blogs make it very easy for a small company or individual to showcase their expertise. For those who want to build a personal brand, I advise that they find something they can be an expert in that’s related to their business and then start talking about it â€" constantly. Write articles and submit them only to portals, sites or newsletters that reach your targeted audience (be selective, in other words). Start a blog, develop a viral e-book and tell everyone about it, send out an e-newsletter, and open a Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook account. You can also use these tools to get to know your prospects that goes beyond simple “demographic” information. You can read forums and discussions, follow people from specific companies on Twitter, and learn who is in their network on LinkedIn. Is content king? If so, do you believe marketing is the queen and that she runs the house? That’s a good question. Marketing is much maligned, I think. It’s seen as a cost center versus a revenue generator. People don’t understand it and are often suspicious of it. It’s been hard to track and prove ROI â€" and even now that we can prove ROI, some people still don’t know how to do it. I just had someone say to me, “The CFO wants to cut my marketing budget, what do I do?” and my first thought was, “Haven’t you been proving to him/her that your marketing is bringing in leads or sales?” But without marketing, companies lose market share, their voice in the marketplace, and ultimately leads and sales. To answer your question, I would say content is definitely NOT king if it isn’t backed by a sound marketing strategy that’s tied to the top-level goals of the business and has clearly defined objectives that can be tracked and measured. - Dianna Huff is a B2B marketing communications consultant and copywriting expert. Top 6 Skills You Should Know In 2019 CareerMetis.com

Top 6 Skills You Should Know In 2019 Another year. Careers need to be re-defined and refined; skills need to be gained and polished. And most importantly, you need to be aware of the pulse of the market. What is the present market demand? What skills are indispensable and what are not? What can make you stand out and what can make you just one among thousands? As you can see, the rate at which technological advancements are happening is outside the realms of practical comprehension. Ironically, it is not technical skills that can increase your chances of getting hired. According to the latest findings from LinkedIn, which analyzed thousands of job postings to identify which skills are most valued by companies in 2019, it was found that recruiters and employers give preference to ‘soft skills’ such as creativity, collaboration, leadership, persuasion over technological skills such as cloud computing, AI or ML.evalAnother study conducted by the World Economic Forum titled Future of Jobs Reports 2018, highlighted that s oft skills such as human skills would be highly valued by 2022.Alibaba Founder and Executive Chairman, Jack Ma, discussed the importance of social abilities or people skills as it is known popularly during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2018 in Davos. He emphasized the importance of Emotional QuotientThe soft skills that influence whether you will get hired or not are:1) Emotional Quotient Emotional Intelligence In LinkedIn’s report, ‘Skills Companies Need Most In 2019’, Creativity topped the index of the soft skills that are in-demand in 2019. Creativity, the ability to come up with new ideas is not a necessary need of business. However, today a new emphasis on innovation has elevated this skill set to the top of the list.As you know, technological advancement is accelerating rapidly. There are many human jobs that technology can obliterate shortly. Today, computers can do tasks that humans did in the past. For instance, machines are better at calculation and retentio n rather than humans. Also, specific routine tasks such as making a check deposit have become much easier with ATM.Keeping all this in mind, so what can technology not replace or not give? Without any doubt, it is creativity. Though computers can do marvels, they lack the imagination to come up with creative solutions. Thus, creativity will be one of the coveted skills in the future.Today, recruiters place a lot of value on creative individuals, who can devise creative solutions to any problem. Experts are of the opinion that creativity is something that should be cultivated outside the workplace. Recent studies show that meditation can help in enhancing and promoting creative thinking. The basic idea is that when a person slows down, rest and let their minds wander, they will be able to make space for non-linear thoughts.3) Leadership CollaborationOne way in which you can grow in your career is by exhibiting leadership skills. Take ownership of your team outcomes, help others in y our team and take the lead to improve the process. Leadership skill is always in demand as not everyone can effectively lead others and specifically in this digital era, where change is always around the corner, employers are always on the lookout for potential leaders who can guide the company through change. As workplaces are increasingly becoming more of a collaborative effort and less of a hierarchy, individuals need to know how to work in a team rather than demand things from others. In the new workforce, employees are expected to work with others in different functional roles, to reach their goals.According to a Salesforce survey, which studied more than 1400 corporate employees, educators and executives, it was found that 86% of them were of the opinion that workplace failures were caused due to the lack of collaboration. This highlights how collaboration is increasingly being seen as a pathway to success.4) Learning How To LearnIn the past, individuals learned skills to land a job. Cut to today; individuals learn skills to sustain in their career. According to a recent report by Deloitte, the average half-life of skill is merely five years. This highlights how skills are getting obsolete at a rapid pace, thus giving rise to the constant demand for upskilling and re-skilling.Since upskilling is the norm today, there is a need to learn the correct way to learn. This concept has become so important that there are courses today that will teach you how to determine the right direction. Coursera is one among the popular providers of such courses.Technical SkillsevalHard Skills refers to expertise in specific areas that can be defined, taught and measured. These skills typically require the use of the left brain and adherence to a set of rules that can be applied irrespective of the circumstances. Some of the hard skills that are touted to dominate in 2019 are:eval5)Cloud ComputingThe demand for Cloud computing is enormous today, and experts say that it will c ontinue to have an exponential rise in 2019. LogicMonitor recent survey estimates that 83% enterprise workloads will be in the cloud come 2020. Moreover, the same poll reports that 27% of the respondents were of the opinion that 95% of all workloads will be running in the cloud by 2025. These statistics highlight how cloud computing is an excellent skill to invest in for the future.6) Artificial IntelligenceArtificial Intelligence has permeated every sphere of our life. From self-driving cars, chat-bots, search-engine recommendations, our interaction with AI has become a usual occurrence; we hardly pay attention to it anymore. This is because of its seamless integration in our life. Understanding AI, learning how it works is an essential skill that anyone can have, given that the revolution in AI has only just started.

Comfortable Office Wear That Still Makes You Look Professional - CareerAlley

Comfortable Office Wear That Still Makes You Look Professional - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. Luckily, the time for uncomfortable office clothes has come to an end. No more sky-high stilettos and suits you can barely move in; now, you can almost get away with strolling into the office in your yoga pants and sweatshirt. Almost, that is. While we want to look professional and well-groomed, its also important to be dressed in something that doesnt make you want to throw yourself out the office window. Image via: Pexels To make it a bit easier for you to find that middle-ground between uncomfortably tight waistbands and lazy Sunday-attire, weve found a couple of outfits that you can totally pull off in the office. Dress in stretch A lot of formal clothing brands are starting to understand what people actually want to wear to the office by incorporating a stretchy waistband in those suit pants. Its going to make them a lot more comfortable, thats for sure, but remember that you can easily make sure your entire wardrobe is stretchy by buying clothes that are made partly of elastane. It stretches up to three times its original length and recovers just as seamlessly. Although we have general guidelines for what to wear in an office setting, the fine line that once separated appropriate and inappropriate-office attire has become a gray area. For example, it would be no surprise to see the founder of a startup company conduct business in jeans and a T-shirt, yet that ensemble would likely be frowned upon at a larger corporation. Forbes.com Now youre able to look just as polished as you would in any other structured pair of pants but with the freedom of yoga pants and nobody will ever have to know. Go for flats Nobody should be forced into high heels, neither men nor women. Flats can be just as fancy as high-heeled shoes, in any way, and youll be able to maintain normal-looking feet when youve passed 40 too so dont let anyone tell you otherwise. Get a pair of flats with a slightly pointy toe if you want it to look a bit more formal and youre good to go.

Career Advice from a Comic Book -

Career Advice from a Comic Book - In the March 3rd issue of BusinessWeek, Susan Berfield wrote about a new career advice genre:   the comic book.   Berfield explains that many business publishers have been adjusting their products to be read in limited time slots, such as a two-hour plane ride.   The comic book appeals to those who dont have time for too many words on one page. Due out in April, The Adventures of Johnny Bunko:   The Last Career Guide Youll Ever Need, by Daniel H. Pink, who also wrote Free Agent Nation and A Whole New Mind, is targeted to college students.   Pink says, College students are making all kinds of assumptions about their careers that are just wrong. Berfield reports that there are six lessons in the book: There is no plan. Think strengths, not weaknesses. Its not about you. Persistence trumps talent. Make excellent mistakes. Leave an imprint. All interesting points.   I am curious to see how Pink elaborates on them in his book, which is touted to be a useful and entertaining work that can be read in an hour. Seeking career advice targeted directly to you?   Keppie Careers will write your resume and coach you through the job hunt maze.
